UofL Lauded for Outstanding Online Engineering Management Program

Online Learning Makes Award-Winning Degrees More Accessible

The University of Louisville was honored recently for its outstanding Master of Engineering in Engineering Management, one of many degrees now available via online education. UofL’s program was ranked 29 out of the Top 50 engineering management degrees in the nation by Topmanagementdegrees.com.

“As our world and businesses grow increasingly bigger and more complex, it is imperative that our leaders understand systems, logistics, and management on a global scale,” notes the article, which also underscores the nation’s need for technical engineers who understand both the inner workings and the large-scale relevance of technical systems. It also notes the importance of degrees like UofL’s Master’s of Engineering in Engineering Management for key leadership positions at home and abroad.

Engineering managers possess one of the best paying jobs in the nation, with a 2014 median yearly pay of more than $130,000 according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Topmanagementdegrees.com ranked their Top 50 list on several criteria, including reputation, prestige, flexibility, estimated cost and estimated career salary. Data was gathered from each of the online programs’ websites, as well as US News and World Report, The Princeton Review, PayScale and the National Center for Education Statistics.

“UofL is comprised of three campuses, twelve colleges and schools, and offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs to over 21,000 students annually,” notes the article. Louisville’s online Master of Engineering in Engineering Management is offered by the J.B. Speed School of Engineering, a highly reputable school, with a long history of student success. The program requires 30-credit hours for completion and is designed for experienced engineering professionals, or those with hard-science background, who want to be trained in managing complex engineering projects, products, and services. Courses are delivered 100% online and in an accelerated format, with terms only 6-week long. Coursework in this program include: Operations Management, Engineering Statistics, Decision and Risk Analysis, Human Resource Management, Project Management, Information Technology Management, Intellectual Property Law for Engineers, and Engineering Financial Management. Admission to this graduate program requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or hard-science (math, chemistry, physics, computer science) and a minimum GPA of 2.75. No GRE is required. Financial aid is available for all applicants who qualify, and a special discounted tuition rate is available for active duty military.

UofL’s Online Master’s in Criminal Justice Ranked in the Top Ten in the US

Outstanding faculty, student services, and high levels of student engagement are just a few of the reasons US News & World Report ranked UofL’s online Master of Science in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) ninth in the nation in its listing of the 2016 Best Online Graduate Criminal Justice Programs. More than 50 regionally accredited online criminal justice programs were evaluated for the 2016 report. The University of Louisville program improved its ranking from 13^th in the nation in 2015 to 9th in 2016.

The US News & World Report rankings are based on a survey of academics at peer institutions and each school’s score reflects its average rating on a scale from 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding). Programs are ranked based upon faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, student engagement, and admissions selectivity. The MSCJ online program received its highest scores in faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, and student engagement.

The online master’s in criminal justice is designed for law enforcement, investigation, security and corrections professionals who are interested in pursuing positions of leadership within the justice system. The program has developed educational partnerships, that provide additional financial support to qualifying students, with the National Sheriffs’ Association, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police, Metro Louisville first responders and the Southern Police Institute.

The degree curriculum addresses the criminal justice system, theories of crime and delinquency, legal issues in criminal justice, advanced statistics and research methods as well as a number of specialized electives such as capital punishment, justice policy, and justice in the media. UofL’s MSCJ program can be completed in two years.

US News & World Report – Online Programs Rankings 2016

The value and quality of online programs offered at the University of Louisville has been recognized again by the U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 Rankings of the United States’ best colleges and universities, released in January.

More than 1,200 online programs offered at regionally accredited institutions were evaluated. Out of those, UofL online programs were ranked as the nation’s best across three categories: Criminal Justice, Computer Information Technology, and Education.

The Online Graduate Criminal Justice (CJ) Program within the College of Arts and Sciences at UofL rank #9 for 2016, which is an improvement over the #13 ranking last year. The master’s in criminal justice online program gets highest scores in faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, and student engagement.

The Online Graduate Computer Information Technology (CIT) Programs offered by the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at UofL rank #23 for 2016, sharing this position with University of North Carolina-Greensboro. The online computer science programs score highest in faculty credentials and training, and in admissions selectivity.

The Graduate Education Programs offered through the College of Education and Human Development at UofL rank #124 for 2016, tied with Brandman University, Northwestern State University of Louisiana, St. Leo University, University of North Texas and Virginia Commonwealth University. The online education programs score high in faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology. The range of education online programs include a master’s in higher education administration, a master’s in special education, and a master’s in human resources and organization development.

The US News & World Report 2016 rankings are based on a survey of academics at peer institutions and each school’s score reflects its average rating on a scale from 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding). In 2015, the University of Louisville, overall as an institution, was ranked #168 among all national universities, #91 of top public schools and #134 among best colleges for veterans. Updated institutional rankings for 2016 are expected later this year.

University of Louisville wins the 2015 SANsational Award

University of Louisville wins the 2015 SANsational Award for outstanding efforts in developing high-quality solutions to state authorization challenges.

The University of Louisville (UofL) is the proud recipient of the WCET SANsational Award for excellent work in addressing out-of-state students’ location. UofL is one of the four winners across three state authorization regulatory categories: Student Location; Institutional Authorization – notifications and disclosures; and Licensure Programs – notifications and disclosures.

The State Authorization Network (SAN) within WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) has evaluated all SAN member institutions on their work and recognized a select few for creating and presenting innovative and effective solutions addressing the issues and challenges of the state authorization regulations in higher education. Their applied concepts, approaches and processes will establish the foundation and industry-wide best practices in meeting the needs of regulators, institutions and students.

The Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning worked in partnership with the Office of Academic Programs and Accountability, UofL SACS liaison, and associate deans to design a thorough process to identify UofL students’ state of residence, from initial inquiry to their start each academic term.

The detailed data reports and frequent communication with the stakeholders helped UofL monitor the volume of educational activity outside the state of Kentucky and take immediate necessary action to address compliance issues. “As the University of Louisville and the Delphi Center strive for excellence, we are constantly looking for ways to implement new strategies to enhance processes so that we become the industry model in addressing state authorization,” said Gale Rhodes, Associate Provost and Executive Director of the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning, who leads the state authorization compliance efforts.

“The recipients of the SANsational Awards demonstrate creativity and commitment to compliance,” said Sharyl Thompson, CEO, Higher Education Regulatory (HER) Consulting, and chair, SANsational Awards committee. “They are great examples of how institutions are managing their state authorization work.”
