Earn Your PhD Online At UofL

The University of Louisville (UofL) recently launched the online PhD in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development (PhD ELOD) with a Specialization in Higher Education Administration (HEA), the first online PhD program offered by UofL. This program was specifically designed with seasoned higher education professionals in mind and was deliberately curated to prepare these individuals for administrative leadership roles within their current or future higher education institutions. Given the evolving state of higher education, there has never been a greater demand for experienced professionals to lead universities into the future.

This program combines rigorous research training, strategic leadership skills and hands-on research lab experience to create a well-rounded higher education leader. Our status as a Carnegie R1 University combined with nationally recognized faculty will allow you to thoroughly research topics like Student Experience and Campus Environments, Equity and Experiences in Postsecondary Education and more.

Furthermore, this PhD program is specifically designed for you to complete your PhD without putting your career on hold. The 60 credit hour program combines online flexibility with immersive in-person experiences, like the in-person Summer Intensive at UofL’s campus, or the annual ASHE conference. These experiences create opportunities to bond with your cohort, expand your network and present research in front of your higher education peers.

This program is meant for those who want to build, lead and inspire the future of higher education. Much will be required of students in this program, but extensive and difficult work is what makes the mantle of PhD meaningful. Learn how to earn yours today and join our inaugural cohort here

Melissa Hill Online Student Highlight (BS in OLL and MBA)

Melissa Hill Online Student Highlight (BS in OLL and MBA)

Online BS in OLL Graduate, Current Online MBA Candidate

Hope is a powerful thing. It stems from a belief in the possibility of something better, of a future that can be achieved with some hard work and a little luck. Hope requires nurturing, with love and attention given in the appropriate amounts.

Hope is the exact characteristic that Melissa Hill demonstrates in her daily life. Melissa is a graduate of UofL’s online Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Learning (BS in OLL) and is a current candidate in UofL’s 100% online MBA program. Melissa originally started her undergraduate journey at UofL in ‘91, though she wasn’t sure that college was the right fit for her at the time. She entered the workforce and spent the next few decades raising her family and building her career. After some input from mentors and conversation with her family, she made the decision to complete her undergraduate degree online with UofL’s BS in OLL program, with a track focus on Healthcare Leadership. She didn’t stop there however; after completing her undergraduate degree, Melissa made the bold move to start up with UofL’s online MBA program, something she described initially as being out of her comfort zone.

Melissa is a natural leader, and her story demonstrates that it’s never too late to take a leap of faith in life. Melissa had a hope for a better future when she resumed her undergraduate journey; she is now on track to graduate with a UofL MBA in May 2026. Watch her story below:

Do you have hope for your future? Consider what that might look like with UofL’s Organizational Leadership & Learning bachelor’s and the MBA+ program, both 100% online, on your time!

UofL Football Beats #2 Miami

UofL Football Beats #2 Miami

Of the four seasons, fall is arguably the best for sports fans. Playoff baseball, the start of college and professional football, and the start of basketball and hockey season respectively. The University of Louisville has plenty to celebrate this football season; your UofL Cardinals beat the University of Miami, the #2 team in the country last week!

As a result of the win, Miami dropped to #9, and Louisville broke the top 25, earning a ranking #19 according to AP. Miami’s Heisman-candidate quarterback Carson Beck threw 4 interceptions as the Cardinal defense stifled a highly ranked Miami offense. Louisville’s only loss of the season was a 30-27 loss to University of Virginia, and next play Boston College this weekend.

From Flowcharts to Freedom: What a Nobel Peace Prize Winner Teaches About Industrial and Systems Engineering

From Flowcharts to Freedom: What a Nobel Peace Prize Winner Teaches About Industrial and Systems Engineering

When the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize went to María Corina Machado, many were surprised to learn that the Venezuelan opposition leader was trained not in politics — but in industrial engineering. Her degree taught her to analyze systems, identify inefficiencies and design solutions — skills she later applied to democratic reform.

Machado’s journey demonstrates the wide-reaching power of industrial and systems engineering. The same discipline that improves production lines and supply chains can also strengthen healthcare delivery, streamline global logistics, and even inform political change.

At the University of Louisville, the online Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering equips professionals to apply systems thinking across industries — from manufacturing and data analytics to healthcare operations and human-factors engineering.

Career paths for graduates include:

  • Operations or Systems Engineer
  • Supply Chain or Logistics Manager
  • Process Improvement or Quality Engineer
  • Data and Analytics Specialist
  • Industrial Project Manager
  • Healthcare Systems Analyst

The program’s flexible online format lets you earn your degree while working full-time, with faculty recognized nationally for research and innovation.

Machado once said that democracy is an engineering project — a system requiring maintenance, data, and human calibration. In the same way, industrial and systems engineers at UofL learn to engineer better outcomes — for industries, communities, and the world.

Applications for the Spring 2026 term are due November 15.
